and he removed this desk from the Kansas City Western Auto building when they vacated their offices from there.  It's an executive Art Decco style; I'm guessing it dates from the 1910s or 1920s.  I can't find any evidence of it ever having been refinished, and it bears the scars one would expect from being used as a utilitarian piece for many decades.  There are too many scratches to count, some deep gouges on the inside corners of the pedestal (from the chair hitting it here), and some missing veneer on the right front corner of the top.

Measurements are 60" wide, 36" deep, and 30" high.  There are a total of eight drawers (the bottom on the left side is double-height for files) and two pull-out writing surfaces.  One small knob is missing from the left writing-surface pullout, and the key for the lock is missing . . . otherwise it's complete with all hardware.

originally used in Terrace Park High School in Cincinnati, where my grandfather was a teacher and coach in the 1940s and 1950s.  My father used it in his study at home until recently, having had it professionally refinished sometime in the 1990s.  It's a single-pedestal design with four drawers.

Dimensions are 42" wide, 32" deep, and 30" high.  Construction is of solid oak and very sturdy, but the top lifts off and the drawers easily removable, making it not very heavy in sections and easily movable.  There were some gouges in the top that were repaired/filled when it was refinished, and some light scuffs from use afterward, but it's basically in good condition.  The drawer lock is missing, but pedestal locking mechanism works for bottom two drawers.

This chair is the companion to Lot 1211, also coming from the Kansas City Western Auto building at the same time. It's of solid wood construction with upholstered seat and back, with a cast-iron tilt and swivel mechanism.  The upholstery dosen't look original to me, but it's fully intact without tears or holes, albiet rather dirty and dusty, with some pilling of the fabric.   There are numerous light scratches around the wood parts and legs, but no deep gouges, cracks or scrapes that I could find.  The casters are in poor condition and one is missing.

Dimensions are about 23" across both the widest and deepest parts, and the top of the back is about 32" high.
